Review
When I read the blurb for
For Finlay I thought I was going to get poignant tale of a sister seeking
to connect with her lost brother through the sport he loved and you do get that…to
a point. What I really got was a story
of a young woman finding herself and finding love in the midst of it all. There was a great blend of feelings, humor
and heat in the book. This was my first
read by J. Nathan and I was pretty impressed.
Finlay’s lost and broken.
But don’t take that to mean she’s a doormat, she’s not. She’s trying to move on and doing it the best
way she knows how. Too bad it puts her
in the direct path of the one person she hates. Caden’s cocky, arrogant and basically
a stereotypical jock. Too bad that he
occasionally shows that he has a good side, one that Finlay doesn’t want to
know anything about. But things aren’t
always what they seem. The chemistry
between these two is hit or miss but you can see that there are real feelings
developing. But both characters were really developed;
they were complex with insecurities and flaws.
The other characters added some depth to the story—ones you love to hate
and the best friends you adore.
Overall, I thought it was a fantastic story. Yes, at some points I felt the characters’
actions were more on par with someone of a younger mindset but not necessarily
too out of reach of a young twenty-something not quite tested by time. There were definitely some feels in this book
and yes it did have angst and drama.
Maybe too much drama for some people, it threw me a little. But in the end it didn’t matter too
much. It’s still a great story of a girl
finding herself amidst it all. And that’s
what I choose to focus on.
If you like NA or sports romances, this is definitely worth
a look. And if you’re an Alabama fan, I’d
say you have to take a look ;-). -Peace and Love, Buxom J
About J. Nathan:
Nathan is the author of the new adult novels For Finlay, Before Hadley, Until Alex, and Since Drew. When she's not writing, she's a total romance junkie! Add an alpha male who's unlikable in the beginning...even better. Happy endings are a must. Love triangles and negative people are the bane of her existence. Her family, friends, guys in backwards hats, and watermelon margaritas are the light…
