A departure from what I have been reviewing lately, Take You Apart is a thriller with a side of romance. And it was a refreshing change of pace. I usually stay away from thrillers; I tend to find the macabre a bit too much for me but this was so skillfully written that I wasn’t put off like I usually am. So in I jumped with both feet.
I will admit that I was pretty sure I knew who the killer was about 20%. I had two guesses and I figured I had a 50/50 chance I was right. And in the end I was (no spoilers though, you have to read it to find out!). But TJ Spade did keep me guessing which it was until the very end and I was entertained the whole way. And I think that’s the fun in this type of book, trying to play detective along with the characters. I found the cast of characters diverse and intriguing. You have Caleb, the sexy artist with the special gift; Jack, the gruff detective; Ethan, the loyal best friend; and Makayla, the intrepid reporter. There were also numerous side characters that added even more depth.
This was the perfect thriller, especially for someone like me who typically doesn’t like them. It was fast paced, kept me guessing and was complex. I appreciated that it wasn’t overly technical and there wasn’t a lot of jargon that a layperson or someone new to the genre might not know. It definitely isn’t for the faint hearted though! I definitely will be recommending this book to others and reading the next. - Peace and Love, Buxom J
