Synopsis:
Folks in town call him a monster—say he’s dangerous. But I know him simply as Elijah Hays, the quiet, gentle giant who works with the horses on my ranch. I can feel him watching me, that steady intense gaze making me crave things I don’t quite understand, burn in a way that frightens me. He’s always kept his distance…until that night.I remember him coming to my rescue, me following him into the barn, giving him his first taste of a woman, and his inexperienced yet barely reined touch turning me to ash. Now all I can think about is exposing the dark desire I see deep inside him—having him turn those dark desires on me. That low, gritty voice rasping orders in my ear. Those huge, rough hands holding me down when a storm blows in. I want his surrender. His control. I want to break him…and have him break me…
Review
This is my first time reading a book by Sherilee Gray. Breaking
Him is a relatively short standalone story about a woman, Abigail Smith,
who is lusting after her ranch hand, Elijah Hays. Abigail’s had a rough time of it—she lost her
father, there’s been a drought and now the bank is breathing down her neck
about her mortgage. The one bright spot
is watching Elijah work with the horses.
Elijah had a hard childhood, his dad was an abusive arse and the
townspeople are judgmental know-it-all gossips all up in his business. They are hot for each other but never acted
on it…until now.
So I want to be able to give the book two ratings. If I was rating it just on the sex, it would
be a 4 star book. Holy smokes, the sex
scenes in this book are delicious and there are plenty of them. I was fanning myself reading it. It was great watching them explore their
sexual relationship. However, plot wise
I have to give it 3 stars. There was a
lot of potential here but I think it almost got bogged down by the sex. You don’t really get the chance to get to
know the characters. You get hints here
and there but their histories aren’t fully explored and I really wish they were.
Overall, I enjoyed the book; it’s just not a favorite. I actually immediately recommended it to a
friend who is all about the sex in romance books. -Peace and Love, Buxom J
