I have to admit to being nervous about starting Black Swan Affair. While the blurb drew me in, it also scared
me. I don’t mind love triangles, just
not a fan of them when marriage is involved.
But I put aside my misgivings because I knew if this was written well,
it would be an amazing story. And it
was. This was my first K.L. Krieg book
and I have to say I definitely want to pick up her other books because this was
exquisitely written. I was riveted from
the very beginning and was so enthralled I threw stuff at my husband when he
tried to talk to me.
The characters within this story are flawed, raw and
complex. Maverick is torn between two
brothers—Killian who she has loved since she was young and Kael who she
married. She’s at times vulnerable, at
times spunky, and at times independent.
You really get to take a journey with her through painful
self-discovery. Reflection is rarely easy
and it isn’t easy for her. I got to
accompany her on the rollercoaster of emotions:
love, hatred, regret, heartache, happiness…and so much more. Parallel to Maverick’s love of Killian has
been Kael’s love for Maverick. He’s been
waiting on the sidelines, cheering her on and supporting her while quietly
waiting for his chance to make her see
him. To make her see his love. Man, that every woman had a Kael standing at
her back. His steadfast love for her was
breathtaking. But Killian loved her too
and had made sacrifices to protect her.
This isn’t an easy book, it’s difficult and real and
raw. It’s about whether or not you can
let go of love, choose to love someone else and move on. It’s about the many different types of love
there are, the slow burn, the furious flame, etc. I am so glad I didn’t let my misgivings keep
me from this book. It was
breathtaking. In the midst of all this
personal turmoil, there’s also some mystery and suspense going on. A few twists that were unexpected.
Definitely a book to one-click today, don’t let the blurb
