TRAE
It's a call that changes my life--and my little girl's. Years ago, playing for the NBA was the dream, but the Seattle Stallions suck. Worse than that, my old teammate is now the star center--not to mention my number one rival. There has to be a catch, some sort of agenda. Before I was injured, I was the best. Now? There's no way they want me.

But when I see the roster and salaries, it all comes together. It's a chance to get on the court again and change our lives. And I just can't wait for the opportunity to finally take him down. What I never counted on is Courtney Cohen being the game changer.

COURTNEY
I inherited the Bad News Bears of the NBA. When I discovered the star center, my ex fiancé, cheating on me, all I want is to jump ship before the whole thing sinks. But with revenge on my mind, I exact a plan. Take down the dirty player and save my father's dream.

Suddenly twelve minutes is too little time, and a season is not long enough.

Review

I’m not a huge fan of sports romances but I love reading anything that’s set in my state so I knew I would have to read Offensive Rebound.  I was a little excited that it was about basketball and not one of the trifecta of sports romances (baseball, football, hockey).  I figured that would give it a little bit of an edge over some of the others I’ve read.   I did enjoy it, it was a quick and easy read but it didn’t set my world on fire.  I’m not sure this one will be landing in my re-read pile.  And I loved reading about some of my favorite Seattle places.

Courtney is young, determined and definitely a woman scorned.  You can tell she’s trying to grow some brass balls.  I like her independence and her fierce determination to succeed.  Trae is what made the book for me.  He was cocky, arrogant but he also had a soft, sweet side.  It made him very endearing to me.  Plus he was a dad and I melt when I see strong men with their daughters.  There was definitely some chemistry between the two of them.  And I loved watching the sparks fly.  Yes it was a bit of insta-love but it kind of worked in this instance.  Reading their story was just like curling up with a soft blanket on a cold day.  I loved the banter, the push pull and then the fall.

Now for what didn’t really work for me.  There were a plethora of C names in this book that made keeping track of characters a little difficult.  It took a couple of chapters to figure out who was who.  I couldn’t stand Courtney’s mother.  Usually, even if a character annoys me I can get through a book but I almost put the book away from my dislike of her alone.  There was an exceptional amount of time spent mentioning “hoop honeys” that made all the players look like a bunch of manwhores.  No mention of any of them being wifed up.  I know pro-athletes aren’t known for being the most faithful of men but some of them are.  But all of this is reader preference and others may not feel the same.

If you’re a sports romance fan or a fan of basketball, this book may be a slam dunk for you.  It had a lot of basketball knowledge within it and showed either knowledge of the game or a great eye for research.  It was well-written and well-paced.  Definitely worth a chance.

Excerpt

“You still afraid of me?” Courtney asks. I push her hair out of her face. “No.” “I’m afraid of you.” “No beer muscles tonight?” I ask, glancing at her empty glasses. She shakes her head. I scoot in closer to her. “Tell me what you’re afraid of.” “Liking you too much,” she says then takes a drink. I turn her in her seat so she’s facing me. “You’re gonna like me even more when I’m inside you.” Her body grows taut. “You can’t say stuff like that. It makes me uncomfortable.” “Well, now I’m going to have to do it more often to get you used to it; make you crave it, beg for it.”
