The boy next door. That’s what he was. Dash Frasier—my hero
from the day we met, when I was six and he was nine. His sister was my best
friend, the three of us one happy crew. Then one sweaty summer night changed
everything.
No one understood me like Dash. No one made me feel so
loved. That’s why, when he skipped town, it wrecked me.
Now I’m older. Wiser. I’ve just snagged my dream job,
writing at a film studio. The lead animator on my project?
You guessed it.
He’s not the boy next door. Not anymore.
I’m guarding my heart this time.
But Dash has secrets that could break us both.

Review
When a book combines two of my favorite tropes, I tend to
get pretty excited. I love second chance
romances and best friend’s brother stories.
And while I hadn’t read any of Ella James’ works yet I had heard good things. So I was highly anticipating that I would
enjoy The Boy Next Door. And I’m a little disappointed when I couldn’t. It was sort of like I was a deflated balloon.
Amelia is sweet but too forgiving and a bit of a
doormat. This could work if the hero
helps build her up and she gains her confidence. This isn’t what happens. Dash is a bit of a sad sack. He’s got a secret he’s afraid to tell and he’s
been fighting his attraction for Amelia because of it. I did see a bit of a connection and there are
definitely some steamy sex scenes. I
just felt like their whole thing was a bit toxic. He tore her apart but in the end she’s the
one propping him up. It just didn’t work
for me. And when Dash’s secret came out,
I had zero sympathy for him. He just
needed to own up to his own mistakes.
There is definitely drama in this book. It flows throughout the story but isn’t too
over-the-top. If you’re a fan of second
chance stories and best friend’s brother ones, this might just be a good one to
try. I’m just going to have to pick up
another Ella James book to really see what she’s capable of. -Peace and Love, Buxom J
