PICK YOUR SIDE

This tight end is at the top of his game.
He’s good with his hands, even better with his sexy mouth, and the best at making me forget my own name. His—ahem—stats are perfect. But I can’t fall for him. He might be everything I want, all rolled into a glorious package of gridiron god, but there’s one teeny-tiny problem. The vile, loathsome team I’ve spent my entire life hating—my beloved school’s arch-rival? This guy is their star player.

I have started to fall in love with sports romances again.  This is a big deal because for a while I was so burned out on them.  And its books like The Rivalry by Nikki Sloane that are changing my mind.  This book was funny and steamy enough that it kept me captivated.  And as someone who isn’t a diehard football fan, that’s a big deal.

Kayla is a diehard fan of her team.  She was born in the stadium, her dad was a coach, and she lives and breathes school spirit.  She’s feisty, determined, and stubborn.  So when she’s knocked of her arse by a player from the rival team, she’s adrift without an anchor.  Jay is talented, built, and loves a challenge.  And Kayla is definitely a challenge.  The push-pull between the two was great…to a point.  I did get a little tired of Kayla’s death grip on the rivalry.  I just wanted her to get over it already.  That being said, these two characters were pretty great.  They were well-developed and intriguing.  I couldn’t wait to see what’d happen next.  The secondary characters added the right mix of comedy and conflict into the story.

As you can imagine, any book about a rivalry is bound to have drama.  And there is some in this book.  Overall, the story is entertaining and definitely worth a read—even if you’re not a football fan.

Nikki Sloane landed in graphic design after her careers as a waitress, a screenwriter, and a ballroom dance instructor fell through. For eight years she worked for a design firm in that extremely tall, black, and tiered building in Chicago that went through an unfortunate name change during her time there. Now she lives in Kentucky and manages a team of graphic artists. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, is married with two sons, writes dirty books, and couldn’t be any happier.
