Review: Even Money - Alessandra Torre

Even Money
By Alessandra Torre
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs

Sometimes it only takes a minute. A connection of eyes across a room, and everything changes. I was a cocktail waitress with a fondness for partying and meaningless sex.  He owned half of Vegas, with the reputation to match. I should have turned away. Instead, I stepped closer. Then, the lies started. Rumors spread. Stalking commenced. And someone died. None of it stopped me from falling in love.

Usually, I love Alessandra Torre but for some reason, Even Money just fell flat for me.  It's well written, the characters well-developed but for me personally, I just struggled to get immersed or invested in the story.  The pacing felt stilted to me.  And the storyline is just one that I don't normally like.  I don't mind the other woman, other man aspects of it.   It was the hero being married that turned me off the most I think.  I'm just not a fan of cheating spouses.

Bell is guarded, determined, and sexually aware.  She knew what she wanted and a relationship wasn't it.  Dario is an anti-hero.  He's an alpha to the bone with a side no one wants to meet in a dark alley.  The chemistry between the two of them is seriously hot.  The connection between them, immediate.  As I mentioned, they are both well-written with elaborate backstories that deepen the storyline.  The secondary characters are just as flawlessly developed.  I really wish I could have loved it.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is a good book.  It just wasn't the book for me.  I've fallen in love with Torre's writing in the past, so if you're on the fence about this one, give it a try.  It just might be for you.  And while I probably won't read the next in this duet, I will be reading more of Torre in the future.
