Review

This is my first Amy Briggs novel, I found her through a Facebook group of, ironically, male authors.  That being said, this is a standalone within a series so I figured I could get away with reading it without having read the first novel.  Kind of, there were definitely some things discussed that were continuing on from the last novel that had me feeling kind of clueless but they weren’t major plot points so I wasn’t completely lost in the woods. 

Matt Cavanaugh is a firefighter and married to the job.  But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t occasionally…sample the goods.  Isabel Cruise is a local detective and has worked hard to get where she is.  After lackluster performances in the bedroom from men, she’s about giving up on finding someone who can satisfy her.  She met the firefighters of District 23 during the events of Fired Up and as events begin to unfold in Fully Involved not only the fires are heating up.  And after a one night stand, so are her and Matt.

At first, the story fell flat for me.  The first two chapters were all internal dialogue and I couldn’t seem to fully engage.  At about 7% in I put the book down for a bit and then came back to it later.  After more characters got involved and there was more action, I was able to get more engaged and the pace picked up and flowed better.  And I found myself really enjoying the story.  I loved that Isabel was such a strong female lead.  She’s passionate about what she does and she doesn’t hold back.  There’s good mystery and suspense woven into the hot romance.  I thought I knew what was going on and I ended up wrong.  I love it when that happens.

Overall a good read, I’ll probably pick up Fired Up eventually and I’ll look forward to reading more of her books in the future.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J
