Blog Tour: Behind the Bars - Brittainy C. Cherry

BCC BLOG TOUR

Behind the Bars, the first beautiful and emotional standalone in the all-new Music Street Series from Brittainy C. Cherry is available NOW!

Behind the Bars Wrap

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.
The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.
Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.
Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.
And in a flash, she was gone.
Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.
She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.
Caged.
Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.
Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.
When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
When we met again, she was the darkest storm.

So I'm a little ashamed to say that I didnt like this book at first.  I had a hard time connecting with young Jasmine and Elliot.  In fact, I told my husband I was disappointed so far.  Then about 15% the whammy's start.  And they just keep going.  Brittainy C. Cherry once again battered and shattered my poor heart.  I started crying and didn't stop until the last page was turned.  Oh my goodness what an emotional roller coaster that was.

Jasmine is sweet, sassy, and scarred on the inside.  But that doesn't stop her from approaching each day with a smile on her face and happiness pasted over those scars.  Elliot is sweet, talented, and a beautiful soul until life happens.  Then he's battered, bruised, and puts on a cold act.  Their connection as youngsters was almost immediate.  Their chemistry innocent.  But when they meet again?  Will that love be enough to save them both?  While Jasmine and Elliot did not grab my attention as teenagers, they certainly did as adults.  I was drawn to that battered, scarred part of the both of them.

There is definitely drama and angst.  Be prepared for an ugly cry--have lots of tissue, chocolate, and wine (if you drink it) handy.  Once again, Cherry has blown me away with her talent to create a story that completely draws you in and overtakes your heart.  This one'll stick with me for some time.

By the way, what happened to Todd’s nose?” I asked.
“I broke it,” Elliott said matter-of-factly.
“What? How? Why?”
He shrugged before turning to look out the window. “He called you a bad name.”
“What was it?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Eli,” I started.
He turned my way and locked his hazel eyes with my browns. “Jazz…” He shook his head. “It wasn’t true.”
I swallowed hard, a big part of me certain Todd’s words held some form of truth.
Elliott saw it in me—my fear. He kept shaking his head and whispered, “I don’t feel sorry for you. Sometimes you look at me like you think I feel sorry for you, and I want you to know I don’t. I think you’re perfect the way you are.”
I quietly laughed at him repeating the words I’d told him earlier. A few tears rolled down my cheeks. “I’m a little messed up.”
“I know.” He nodded. “That’s why I like you.”
He went back to staring out the window, and I kept staring at him.
And there it was.
So small, so tiny, so real.
Love.
It wasn’t love, but it was the beginning of it.
I knew I was young, and I knew it was stupid, but in that moment, I began to fall in love with the quiet boy who quietly cared for me. The boy who was scared and still strong. The boy who stood up for me when he was surrounded by reasons not to do such a thing. I hadn’t known much about love. I hadn’t known how it looked, felt, or tasted. I hadn’t known how it moved, how it flowed, but I knew my heart was tight and currently skipping a few beats. I understood the goose bumps covering my arms. I knew this stuttering boy who was sometimes so scared was someone worth loving. He was worth being the first one I gave my heart to.
I knew Elliott Adams was love.

And I was falling into him so fast.

The Gravity of Us, an all-new gripping and emotional standalone from Brittainy C. Cherry is available now!

The Gravity of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry
Release Date: April 13th, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Quirkybird Designs

Graham Russell and I weren’t made for one another.
I was driven by emotion; he was apathetic. I dreamed while he lived in nightmares. I cried when he had no tears to shed.
Despite his frozen heart and my readiness to run, we sometimes shared seconds. Seconds when our eyes locked and we saw each other’s secrets. Seconds when his lips tasted my fears, and I breathed in his pains. Seconds when we both imagined what it would be like to love one another.
Those seconds left us floating, but when reality knocked us sideways, gravity forced us to descend.
Graham Russell wasn’t a man who knew how to love, and I wasn’t a woman who knew how to either. Yet if I had the chance to fall again, I’d fall with him forever.
Even if we were destined to crash against solid ground.

Review

Stunning.  Absolutely stunning.

It’s not often that a book leaves me breathless, speechless and in awe.  But there are a few authors who seem to do it on a regular basis.  Brittainy Cherry is one of them.  The Gravity of Us did just that.  In fact, it’s probably my favorite book by her.  I was drawn in, fully immersed into the story and entrapped by her words.  It wasn’t an easy journey, this is an emotional book and the journey these two characters take is a difficult, emotional one.  Hell, I’m starting to tear up writing this review hours after I have read the book.  If that doesn’t give you an idea about how emotionally impacting this story was I don’t know what will.

Lucy is a beautiful soul, pure, nurturing and caring.  She’s a bit of a free spirit, a little bit of a hippie but her heart is so wide open its awe-inspiring.  Graham is the complete opposite—he’s guarded, closed off and cynical.  He’s been broken before and refuses to be broken again.  I appreciated that this was a slow burn story.  That their chemistry wasn’t explosive but more like burning embers that smolder and smoke.  It made their relationship and romance seem more genuine and honest.  These characters were beautifully written and exquisitely developed.  You can watch them both grow and learn as story takes place.  The secondary characters add an additional layer to the story.  There were some I loved and some I hated.

There is definitely angst in these pages.  This book made me sob and cry.  At times they were tears of heartbreak, others tears of beauty and some tears of joy.  It’s a story of healing, hope, love and family.  I highly recommend that everyone one-click this one today.  You will absolutely fall in love with Lucy and Graham.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

Excerpt:

Lucy

We didn’t know how to act with one another after our first kiss. Our situation wasn’t the norm when it came to building a relationship. We did everything backward. I fell in love with a boy before our first kiss, and he fell for a girl who he wasn’t allowed to have. Our connection, our heartbeats, matched one another in our fairytale world, but in reality, society deemed us as an awful accident.

Maybe we were an accident—a mistake.

Maybe we were never supposed to cross each other’s paths.

Maybe he was only meant to be a lesson in life and not a permanent mark.

But still, the way he kissed me…

Our kiss was as if heaven and hell collided together, and each choice was right and wrong at the same exact time. We kissed as if we were making a mistake and the best decision all at once. His lips made me float higher, yet somehow descend. His breaths somehow made my heart beat faster as it came to a complete halt.

Our love was everything good and bad wrapped in one kiss.

A part of me knew I should’ve regretted it, but the way his lips warmed up the cold shadows of my soul…the way he left his mark on me…

I’d never regret finding him, holding him, even if we only had those few seconds as one.

He’d always be worth those tiny seconds we shared.

He’d always be worth that soul-connecting feeling we created when our lips touched.

He’d always be the one I spent my nights dreaming of being near.

He’d always be worth it to me.

Sometimes when your heart wanted a full-length novel, the world only gave you a novella, and sometimes when you wanted forever you only had those few seconds of now.

And all I could do, all anyone could ever do, was make each moment count.

After we went home that night, we didn’t talk about it at all. Not the following week, either. I focused on Talon. Graham worked on his novel. I believed both of us were waiting for the right time to come up for us to speak about it, but that was the tricky thing about timing: it was never right.

Sometimes you just had to leap and hope you didn’t fall.

Title: The Silent Waters
Series: Romance Elements #3
Author: Brittainy C. Cherry
Genre: Romance
 Release Date: September 22, 2016

Blurb

Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

(Book Three in the Elements Series. Complete Standalone.)

Review

I knew when I opened The Silent Waters that I was probably going to cry.  Brittainy C. Cherry had reduced me to an ugly cry in the past.  Then from the very first page, I knew that this story wouldn’t be like any of the others I’ve read.  Despite my love of reading and my desire to be a writer, words have never flowed easily for me but I’m going to try my hardest to describe how this book just hit me in the soul.

There can be such beauty in silence, both peace and pain can be felt there.  Cherry was able to capture that and put it into words.  Maggie once was a precocious little girl, always talking and dancing.  Then her voice and sense of self is stolen from her in moments.  Brooks is her brother’s best friend and eventual bandmate.  He promises to be her friend and anchor.  Their journey through friendship, rocky times and love is such a beautiful thing to witness.  There are painful moments but oh the sweet moments make that pain seem worth it.  The characters were flawed and raw.  There was beauty in that too.  And deep truths about life after trauma or tragedy are delved into here.

My words here seem inadequate.  All I know is that this book is unforgettable and one that I’ll be rereading again.  There are a ton of feels packed into its pages.  Grab some tissues and be prepared.  But definitely one-click it today.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J
