The Devil’s Submission
is the second of Davidson’s “Fallen” series of novellas. It is just as steamy as Surrender to Sin. However, in contrast to book one, this story has
a bit of a backstory to it. There’s no
insta-love here folks. And it was a
welcome change. I do definitely
recommend that you read these in order though.
It’s not necessary but it’s definitely a pleasure. Plus Sin
is an excellent introduction to all of the characters (and is wonderfully
delicious to boot).
Grayson and Eliza are already wed and been married six
months. They are estranged when the
story starts. Grayson is adorably
disheveled, constantly ink-stained and hiding who he really is. Eliza is feisty and independent but had changed
herself to fit perceptions of who she was supposed to be. Submission
is about being true to who you are and reveling in it. I adored this book. I loved that it was a Domme/sub book; you don’t
see many of those. This was my first and
I thought it was handled with class. The
chemistry between the two is explosive.
I loved seeing the play between them.
I had previously stayed away from Domme books because I was worried
authors would play too far into the stereotype but that was far from the case
here. The scenes were sexy, tender and
intense.
There’s some family drama that accompanies Eliza’s return to
her husband that adds some spice to the book, ramping up the entertainment. But it’s definitely low angst and pretty
humorous at times, even if I wanted to strangle Lady Brimley. The only things I didn’t like is the time
spent on Lady Brimley (I’d rather it was spent on Grayson and Eliza!) and the
modern language. The language detracts
from the Regency feel. Other than that,
I did enjoy it! These books have
definitely joined my re-read shelf and I can’t wait to see how Vice falls. -Peace and Love, Buxom J
