S.E. Hall is one of my favorite college romance
writers. Her Evolve series was one of
the first “new adult” series I dived into when I ventured into the indie world
and I fell in love. She created a family
of friends that was as strong if not stronger than blood and it was just what I
needed at that time. So when I heard
that there was going to be a spin-off of that series, of course I was going to
get my grubby little hands on it. No
doubt about it.
Jefferson “JT” Kendrick doesn’t fall far from the tree. This man is the perfect combination of Dane
and Laney with his own quirks thrown in.
He’s alpha, sarcastic, sexy and definitely swoon-worthy. Up until now, he’s been a bit of a playboy
but that’s no problem, he just hasn’t found his one. Bellamy Morgan is a contradiction. She’s sweet but sassy, feisty but
vulnerable. She’s studious,
goal-orientated and JT’s sister’s best friend and therefore….off-limits. The chemistry between them is great. There’s a fabulous push-pull that
happens. I love watching him get all
alpha and then seeing her get sassy back.
This is definitely a slow burn book though, so don’t expect too many red
hot explosive moments.
The character development was spot on. Each character was carefully crafted with
flaws, insecurities and strengths. All
the secondary characters were just as fabulous too. I absolutely loved the move from “The Crew”
to “The Squad.” I have to say though;
Presley definitely caught my interest the most.
And I will admit that seeing all the gang from the old series tugged on
the heartstrings a little (and I’m now doing a re-read…). I love the interfering, loving family dynamic
in the book. It’s one that I continue to
enjoy in multiple books and Hall pulls it off so well.
The one thing that Hall does well is sarcasm and humor and
she doesn’t disappoint in Embody. It’s alive and well in this story and it kept
me laughing and smiling throughout the day (even with bronchitis!). It was definitely a sweet love story with
limited drama. But still captivating all
the same.
If you like sweet NA reads with alpha men and sweet women,
definitely pick this up. You won’t be

Now, tell me what would be a better way to approach that type of thing next time.”

Any thought I’ve ever had about luring Bellamy out of her shell, building her comfort level to be physical with me…this is not what I had in mind. Leave it to my feisty lil’ woman to switch up the plans on me.
I begin to recite the same speech I just gave her, inserting a “please,” “whatever you want,” and “totally up to you” as often as I can. When I’ve said all I can possibly think of in a deep, sexy voice, I wait.
“Very good, babe. Remember that though next time you get some crazy idea on rearranging my life or bossing me into something. I don’t want lip service. I want mutual respect, and sexy assertion that I can’t resist, even when I’m clothed.” She dazzles me with a disarming smile…and lowers the left strap all the way down.

“I don’t either,” she smiles sweetly. Glad she agrees because not working out simply isn’t an option. “You’re quite the quick study, Jefferson.” Her hooded, jade eyes hold my gaze prisoner as she slips the right strap down over the tan slope of her shoulder. Her whole, gorgeous chest is bared to me now, skin flushing under my unwavering, lascivious stare.
