LITTLE LATE BANNER RB2.jpg

A Little Too Late, an all-new romantic standalone from Staci Hart is LIVE!

ALTL-wrap

A Little Too Late by Staci Hart

Publishing Date: October 24th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

I wasn't supposed to fall in love with the nanny.
When my wife left, she took the illusion of happiness with her, and I've been caught in a free fall ever since. For nine long months, I've been fighting to figure out how to be a single dad, how to be alone.
For nine long months, I've been failing.
When Hannah walked through the door, I took my first breath since I'd found myself on my own. She slipped into our lives effortlessly, showing me what I've been missing all these years. Because Hannah made me smile when I thought I'd packed the notion of happiness away with my wedding album.
She was only supposed to be the nanny, but she's so much more.
The day my wife left should have been the worst day of my life, but it wasn't. It was when Hannah walked away, taking my heart with her.

Hannah

The first time I saw Charlie Parker, I didn’t see one thing at a time; I saw all of him. It was an assault on my senses, an overwhelming tide of awareness, and for a moment, the details came to me in flashes over what was probably only a few seconds but felt so much longer.

His hair was blond and gently mussed, his face long and nose elegant. I could smell him, clean and fresh with just a touch of spice I couldn’t place. I tipped my chin up—he was tall, taller than me, and I hovered just at six feet—and met his eyes, earthy and brown and so deep. So very deep.

And then he smiled.

He was handsome when he wasn’t smiling. He was stunning when he was.

I was so lost in that smile, I didn’t register the flying gob until it whapped against my sweater. Tiny splatters of something cold speckled my neck.

This was the moment the clock started again, and the sweet serenity slipped directly into chaos.

A blond little boy looked up at me from his father’s side with a devilish gleam in his dark eyes. The spoon in his hand was covered in blood-red jam and aimed at me like an empty catapult.

Several things happened at once. Charlie’s face morphed into embarrassed frustration as he reached for who I presumed to be his son. The boy—Sam, I guessed from the names I’d been given by the agency—spun around lightning fast and took off down the hallway, giggling. Another child began to cry from somewhere back in the house, and a bowl clattered to the ground, followed by a hissed swear from what sounded like an older woman.

I glanced down at the sliding, sticky mess against my white sweater and started to laugh.

Charlie’s head swiveled back to me, his face first colored with confusion, then in horror as he looked at the Pollock painting on my sweater.

“Oh my God,” he breathed, his apologetic, wide eyes dragging down my body. “Jesus, I am so sorry.”

I was still laughing, almost a little hysterical. I couldn’t even tell you why.

I waved a hand at Charlie, and he took my elbow, guiding me into the house as I caught my breath. Another crash came from the kitchen, and a little girl came toddling out into the entry, leaving powdery footprints on the hardwood.

Charlie’s face screwed up. “Sam!” he called, stretching the word, a drawn-out promise of consequences.

A riot of giggling broke out in the kitchen.

We both snapped into motion. I followed him as he scooped up his crying daughter and stormed toward the kitchen. The little girl watched me over his shoulder with big brown eyes, her breath hitching in little shudders and her small finger hooked in her mouth.

Charlie stopped so abruptly, I almost ran into him.

When I looked around him and into the kitchen, my mouth opened. I covered it with my fingers as laughter bubbled up my throat.

A bag of flour sat in the middle of the floor, the white powder thrown in bursts against the surrounding surfaces and hanging in the air like smoke. The floor next to the bag was the only clean spot, shaped like a small bottom—the little girl’s, I supposed. A bowl lay upside down, its contents oozing from under the rim and slung in a ring from ceiling to cabinet to floor, as if it had completed a masterful flip on its way to its demise. And in the center of the madness stood an older woman with flour in her dark hair and dusted down the front of her. Clutched under her arm was a wriggling Sam, offending spoon still in hand.

Her face was kind but tight with exasperation. “Please tell me this is the new nanny,” she said flatly.

“I doubt we could convince her to stay at this point,” he said with equal flatness.

I’m a huge Staci Hart fan and I couldn’t wait to read Shift.  I hadn’t had a chance to read the first in this series Paper Fools.  So I took this opportunity to binge read them both.  And I have to say I have mixed feelings on them.  The format threw me off and it felt like it was slowing the pacing down a bit.  I loved the romance between Dillion and Kat in Shift but every time it would switch back to the gods and goddesses, I was basically skimming those chapters to get back to Dillion and Kat.

Dillon is broken, guarded, and a fighter.  Life has crapped all over this guy.  He’s also protective.  Kat’s a firecracker, closed off, and fierce.  She’s also protective.  And they both watch over their siblings.  The relationship starts off rocky but the connection is there.  I couldn’t get enough of their story.  I kept getting so frustrated when I couldn’t keep reading about them.  The secondary characters of Owen and Kiki were also great.  All four of them were well-written and complex.

The gods and goddesses were also well-written.  I just couldn’t connect with them like I could the mortal characters.  That being said, it’s an amazing novel and a unique premise.  I just wish I could have enjoyed it more.  If you enjoy two stories in one, you might want to pick this one up.

Excerpt•

ARES
The city stretched up like quartz against the fading sunlight, the colors of the sky deepening with every second that slipped by. Ares’s eyes were on the horizon, slashed with the darkening skyscrapers at the southern tip of Manhattan, but his mind was a thousand years behind him, and her face filled the space in between.
They were Mars and Venus. Man and woman. Ares and Aphrodite. The bond between them was unbreakable, undeniable, no matter how she had tried to reject it, tried to stay away. She’d never quite succeeded. She never would.
Even the gods could not betray the will of the stars.
It had been a hundred years since she warmed his bed, a hundred years of waiting for her. Now they would compete again in a game that mattered little to him. His prize was far greater than a token to be paid for a favor — he wanted her. And for the first time in a very long time, he had a chance to keep her.
Adonis had been in the way far too long — even murdering the human hadn’t removed him from the equation — but now the ground had shifted, tilted in Ares’s favor, and with Aphrodite’s footing unsteady, she would fall.
He would catch her.
This time, he wouldn’t let go.
Ares had already chosen his human player, and soon he would make his way down to the throng of gods who waited for the game to begin. She would be there. She would make her choice, and the fire between them would ignite as it always did — first with a spark, then a flicker. Then, she would be consumed, and so would he.
It would be the same as it ever was, and he was so starved for her, his body tensed from head to heart to heel in anticipation of what was to come.
From a hundred years down to a few days, the distance traveled worth every second of longing, and with every moment that passed, the stars moved closer to alignment and to his favor. And there was nothing she could do to fight it.
He’d see to that.

Synopsis

Nothing good comes after the third date.
See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.
Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.
So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.
Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

Review

Yes ma’am, another hit from Staci Hart has just hit eReaders everywhere.  And this one is oh so good.  I absolutely fell in love with both main characters of this story.  And another Hart man has hit my favorite book boyfriends list.  Bodie is a sexy geek (my kind of man…) who hit all the right buttons for me.  He’s patient, loyal, playful, and knows just what a woman needs.  Extremely swoony.  He’s the perfect match for Penny, our heroine.  She’s bold, shameless, and sassy, especially when it comes to guys.  She knows what she wants, follows her rules, and makes no apologies about it.

The chemistry between these two was explosive from the get go.  I’m talking, burning the house down, hot.  Make sure you have a fresh pair of underwear nearby, you’ll need them.  But it went beyond that.  Bodie knew just how to handle Penny’s insecurities.  And there were plenty of heart-tugging moments and a few hair-pulling ones as well.  These two were skillfully written, well-developed, and complex.  The cast of secondary characters were just as great.  I loved checking in with the crew from Tonic.

There wasn’t a whole lot of angst and just a small amount of drama.  But the story flowed so seamlessly that it just fit.  I’ve seriously become a Hart junkie after the last few books I’ve read by her.  If you haven’t delved into her stories yet, you are definitely missing out.  I’d go one-click this one right now.

Excerpt:

BODIE
She glanced behind me, twiddling her fingers, presumably at Jude and Phil. “So, you’re a twin, huh?”

I nodded and took a sip of my Maker’s as “Rock the Casbah” kicked off, and everyone around us started bouncing and dancing. “Since birth.”

She laughed. “What a win for the universe that there would be two of you.”

“Double your pleasure, double your fun.”

That caught her off guard, and her bottom lip slipped between her teeth as a flush rose on her cheeks.

Just like that, I had one objective, and it began and ended with her lips.

“Although I should tell you now,” I stepped closer, slipping into her space, and her eyes widened, pupils dilating as she leaned into me, “I don’t like to share.”

The tip of her pink tongue darted out to wet her lips, and her eyes were locked onto my mouth.

“Are you thinking about kissing me?” I asked.

She shook her head, though her eyes didn’t stray. “No, I’m thinking about what your dick looks like.”

I laughed from way down deep in my belly, shocked in the best way and turned on in the worst. And as the ocean of people waved around us, she rose up on her tiptoes, grabbed a handful of my T-shirt, and pulled.

I caught the smallest breath — a surprised, satisfied gasp — just before our lips met, and fireworks exploded in my brain. The kiss wasn’t soft or sweet; it was strong and determined, those red, red lips pressing against mine, opening to let me into her hot mouth, her tongue finding mine like she’d been looking for it her whole life.

The surprise left me as quickly as it had hit, and I leaned into her, my free arm winding around her back to press her body against mine.

There wasn’t an inch of space between us, and all the while, our mouths worked each other’s in a long dance that left my heart chugging like a freight train in my chest.

She pulled away, her lips swollen and eyes lust-drunk as they met mine and held them while she kicked back her drink and grabbed my hand.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” she said.

And I smirked, breathless. “Your place or mine?”

Release Blitz: A Thousand Letters - Staci Hart

Title: A Thousand Letters
Author: Staci Hart
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 9, 2017

Blurb

Sometimes your life is split by a single decision.

I’ve spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: he left, and I didn’t follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them.

But now he’s back.

I barely recognize the man he’s become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid.

Maybe if he’d come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I’d said yes all those years ago, he’d look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance.

One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey bought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

*A contemporary romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion*

Review

A Thousand Letters was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.  I was sold on it when I heard it was an adaptation of sorts of Persuasion but I was not expecting what I got.  It left me speechless and in tears.  This has to be one of the best second chance love stories I’ve read in years.  It is both painful and healing all in one.  I was enthralled and teary eyed right from the start.  Staci Hart pulled the emotions out of me with her brilliant writing and I didn’t mind (much) while she tore my heart to pieces.  Especially since she slowly mends it back together again with exquisite skill.  This is real, it is beautiful but it is poignant and heavy.  There is loss, heartbreak, love and forgiveness within these pages.

Elliot and Wade had an epic love story, one of those once in a lifetime kind of deals where you find your forever love while you are young.  But life got in the way, decisions were made and regrets happen.  Now, seven years later, they are thrown back into each other’s lives during a painful time.  Elliot is timid, vulnerable and compassionate.  She also has a quiet strength about her.  She often caught me by surprise and amazed me.  Wade is broken, lost and angry.  He’s changed from the boy she once knew—war does that to a man.  And the circumstances they are in don’t make things any easier.  The love they have for each other is like a ghost in the room whenever they are together, another presence, it can be felt so loudly.

The character development here is superb.  Every character had multiple layers to them:  flaws, strengths, and insecurities.  The secondary characters are fantastic, adding additional depth and history.  I loved the family dynamics in both families that we witnessed.  They were incredibly real and raw.  The pacing felt right on, not moving too slow or too fast.  And man, the poetry that was flowed through the pages.  It grabbed me and reminded me how much I love the stuff.  I haven’t spent enough time with it lately.

This book is one that I think everyone should read.  It’s more than just a romance novel—it’s a novel about life.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

Author Bio

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.
