Blurb

Joel Anderson doesn’t take anything seriously.

Not his relationships, which have been few and far between since his brutal divorce. Not the drama of working in a tattoo parlor, which seems to be around every corner. When things get him down, he smiles and cracks a joke. But he’s not the kind of man you cross, or you’ll find yourself at the wrong end of his fists.

Annika Belousov takes everything seriously.

Like her job as a reality television producer, given that she typically has something to prove. Or her love life, which is defined by a series of requirements — affluent, ambitious, accomplished, to name a few. Definitely her family, who worked their whole lives to afford her every opportunity, a sacrifice she doesn’t take lightly. When she’s tapped to produce a reality show at Joel’s shop, she doesn’t think twice, just goes in for the kill, as if there were any other way.

The second Annika walks into Joel’s shop, he makes it his mission to crack her open, but she’s not having it. He’s all wrong — too crass, too hairy, too un-serious. But it doesn’t take her long to find out there’s more to him than smirks and tattoos. And what she finds could put her career and his heart on the line.

Not that Joel cares. Because for the first time in a long time, he’s found his tonic.

Reviews

So I’ve been sitting on a Staci Hart novel for about half a year now but just never got around to reading it.  I’ve had a huge case of oh shiny with some of my favorite authors and never got around to it.  Then the blurb for Tonic crossed my e-mail and the premise caught my eye.  Even though I can’t stand most reality shows in real life, I find them interesting in books.  Then I saw the cover and drooled, tattoos and beards?  I’m in!

Joel is my favorite type of hero.  Tattooed, bearded and alpha with a soft spot he likes to hide.  He’s bit of a grizzly bear.  I just want to cuddle up to him.  Annika is an ice princess.  She comes off as cold and prissy.  But she’s got a feisty side she’s hiding.  And Joel brings it out in her.  The chemistry between the two is fabulous, the banter even better.  I loved watching the tug of war between their attraction and the desire to keep away from each other.  And when they give in….KABOOM!  The side characters are all great as well.  Laney’s the wicked witch of the editing room.  I wanted to throw a bucket of water on her to see if she’d melt.  And I’d love to see a follow-up book about Roxy.  Bunny needs a daddy to protect her.

While not a sweet and soft romance or a fun and flirty one, this was a pretty easy read.  While there was some drama, there was no heavy angst that made me ugly cry.  It was a good book to read and enjoyable.   There are some feels, some humor and maybe a little bit of tears.  I think it’s time to dust the other Hart novels off in my TBR and get them read, she certainly knows how to keep me engaged.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

If you love a good game of tug-a-war you are in the right place, because that is the gist of this book. Annika, the ice queen, and Joel, the grizzly bear, are skirting around their insta connection and playing games with my heart in the process. Joel is this burly alpha male with all the good things in a man such as humor, tattooes, and a beard. Annika is all things frigid and serious, but underneath that icey hard exterior is a wild side ready to  come out. Who better than the leading man of the new reality show she is producing to thaw out her heart.

I truly enjoyed reading my first ever Staci Hart novel and I can not wait to get my grubby hands on more of her work. I live for the back and forth banter between two leading roles in a story and Tonic did not disappoint there. I’m all for the hot sex scenes but something about Joel really trying to convince Annika that they would be good together drew me into this book and I could not get away from it. Hart you are doing it girl! I am looking forward to more of your work in the future. - Daddy L

Author Bio

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.
