Author: Jessica Hawkins

Blurb

If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.
A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.
Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.
Book two in the Something in the Way series, an epic, 3-book saga of forbidden love...

Review

There’s something amazing about a book that makes you uncomfortable, one that makes you question your idea of happily ever after.  And that’s exactly what Jessica Hawkins did with me in Somebody Else’s Sky.  Is loving someone enough to conquer all?  This book made me uncomfortable, made me think, made me question and I absolutely loved it.

Starting off ten months after the first book, Somebody Else’s Sky continues the story of Manning, Tiffany, and Lake.  Manning has changed, that’ll happen to anyone in his situation.  He’s intensely retrospective and reflective.  He’s bigger, stronger, and determined to do what’s best for all involved.  Tiffany is loyal, stood by Manning in difficult circumstances, and surprisingly I began to like her.  I didn’t care for her much in the first book, but Manning is definitely having a positive influence on her.  Lake is still under the same pressure, still naïve and clueless, and feeling a ton of guilt.  I have to admit that she really annoyed me in this book.  The situation was already hard and intense, but her cluelessness made things worse.  I wanted to shake her and tell her to wake the fuck up.  Hopefully college will do that.

This book was one big ball of drama, it was intense and a tad angsty but all in a good way.  I was tense the whole time reading it, my heart pounding and feeling like I was on the edge of my seat.  My heart broke for Manning.  I felt for him big time, life was just one big suck for him.  This is definitely a series that everyone’s going to want to pick up.  Hawkins is a skilled storyteller that kept me utterly captivated with this book.  I cannot wait for the next one to come out.  I want to see how it all ends.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J
