Review: Worth the Risk - K. Bromberg

WorthTheRiskSBPRBTBanner

“Bromberg is a master at turning up the heat.”—New York Times bestselling author Katy Evans

Worth the Risk, an all-new, sexy standalone about taking chances and finding love when it’s least expected, from New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg, is life!

KBROMBERG_worth_riskebook

This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.

It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.

But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?

Unfortunately, he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.

But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.

But he got to me. They got to me. Him and his son and their messy, crazy life.  But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.

And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

K. Bromberg has done it again, she has reduced me to tears and made me fall in love.  Oh...my...goodness...Worth the Risk is beyond fantastic.  If I could give 6 stars I would.  This book took me on a journey of love, heartache, and letting go.  For some reason, it didn't even compute with me that this was about the little brother from Cuffed and Combust.  At least not until the end.  I know, I'm clueless.  But that didn't detract from the story at all.  These can definitely be read as a standalone.

Sydney is selfish, self-absorbed, and clueless about it.  She's the type of character that I love to hate.  Grayson is a DILF.  He's also heroic, closed off, and angry.  And man, can the man dirty talk.  He's perfectly swoon-worthy.  The banter between the two of them was fantastic.  There was definitely a feeling of "enemies to lovers."  The chemistry between them was just as hot, with sexual tension for days.  The best part?  You got to watch both characters grow and evolve.  They also had intricate backstories that added depth to their journies.  The secondary characters were just as great.

Yes, this book has angst.  But K. Bromberg knows how to use that angst to pull the feels from you and invest you into the story.  And I was invested.  I was literally on the edge of my seat thinking "will they?  won't they?."  Over and over again, she's able to make me feel--tears, laughter, anger.  You name it she's probably drawn it out of me emotion wise.  And sometimes in a single book!

Everyone's going to want to pick this one up.  It's so worth it.

But by the time I reach her, my blood boils with irrationality spurred on by too much alcohol.
“Can I have a moment?” I ask as I walk up to her and grab her elbow, pushing her down the darkened hallway.
“What is your problem?” She hisses as she fights me every step of the way.
We get looks. I get looks. I don’t care because all I keep seeing is Vince’s hands on her arm. His eyes on her tits. His bullshit game I can spot a mile away.
I find the closest door down the hallway leading to the bathrooms, and it opens. I push her through it, barely noticing that it’s an office of sorts before the door is shut, her back is up against it, and my mouth is covering hers.
Take.
Goddammit. That’s my only thought as I fit my lips to hers and take out my anger on her mouth with tongue and teeth and every fucking lick and nip in between.
“What—”
“I’m so pissed at you.”
It’s all I say. It’s the only chance I give her to come up for air before my lips are back on hers. Before my tongue wars with hers. Before my body admits it would beg, borrow, and steal in order to taste every other part of her.
Groan.
I swallow the tiny sound she makes in our kiss as my hands hold her neck still and my lips wage an all-out assault. She hesitates—just a split second—before she reacts. Before her body bows into me, and her mouth argues back.
Fist.
Her hand in my shirt. Her other hand at the back of my neck as our bodies meet—pressed knee to chest. Her perfume in my nose. Her hair tickling my cheeks. The feel of her tits against my chest.
Give.
I can’t get enough.
I’m mad at her.
I want her.
I don’t want to want her.
Christ, do I want her.
“Gray.” A murmured protest.
I tear my lips from hers, shove off the door I have her pressed against, and stride to the other side of the room.
“You are . . . you just . . .” It’s as if I can barely breathe. Christ, I’m mad at you.”
She stands there, lips parted, chest heaving, and golden brown curls messed from my hands, but her eyes look hurt. A hurt I don’t want to see but can’t deny.
“Why?”
“You did this,” I accuse as I try to manage the anger that’s waging a war against my desire.
“Did what?” Her eyes narrow. Her hand goes to press against her chest.
“Made me want you.”

Blog Tour: The Catch - K. Bromberg

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him. Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton. But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong. With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone. He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

Review

Starting off where The Player left off, The Catch immediately draws you in and smacks you upside the head with the feels.  This book is sexy, emotional, and absolutely breathtaking.  Yeah, I never thought I’d say that about a baseball romance.  Although, it’s to be expected, this is K. Bromberg after all.  This woman is seriously skilled when it comes to pulling all the little strings on my heart like she’s a puppeteer.

There is definitely more angst in this one.  Scout has put everything on the line for Easton.  Easton is understandably frustrated and upset.  And the curveballs keep coming.  There are some twists and turns I kind of saw coming and others that I didn’t.  For a second, Bromberg even had me second guessing my guesses.  I love it when authors do that.   And she manages to keep the heat level up amongst all the anguish.  Holy smokes, does she keep the heat up.  The only thing that got to me was how much Easton took his emotions out on Scout.   But then I thought about it and realized that it was such a real relationship thing that it ended up not mattering.

I never thought I’d be adding a baseball player to my lineup of book boyfriends.  I’m just not that into sports.  But Easton Wylder has wormed his way on to the list.

Review

I never thought a K. Bromberg would top Driven as my favorite of her books.  And while Driven will always hold a special place in my heart for being my first of her books, Easton and Scout have wedged themselves into the top spot.  The Player was captivating from the start, I couldn’t put the book down and I didn’t want to.   This is huge for someone who doesn’t read sports romance on a regular basis and not only that, but also isn’t a huge baseball fan.  And the thing is, Bromberg made me want to go to a game, to visit a Little League field, and take part in America’s pastime.

Scout is guarded.  She hides her broken pieces under sass, confidence and bravado.  Determined to prove herself as a woman in a male-dominated field, she takes no prisoners.  Easton is cocky, confident and a bit jaded.  He’s recovering from a nasty injury and wants the best of the best.  The chemistry between these two is fiery, the push-pull between them magnetic and amazing.  I loved their witty banter.  I was definitely grinning a lot in this book.  But it wasn’t all fun and games.  There were some definite feels as well.  The characters are beautifully written, wonderfully developed and complex.  The secondary characters are just as great, adding additional depth to the story.

There is a lot in this book—a little bit of drama, a lot of feels, some humor and a whole lot of heart.   Neither Scout nor Easton are who I expected them to be when I first started, as each page turned, I learned more.   I don’t want to reveal too much.  It’s definitely one of those books that you have to read and experience for yourself.  I thought I was getting a typical sports romance but got so much more.  I should have known not to expect anything normal from Bromberg.  I cannot wait to see what happens next.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

Mini Interview

We got the pleasure of asking K. Bromberg three questions.  Here are her responses.

If you could have dinner with 3 people, past or present, who would it be and why?
3 people: Oprah Winfrey, my grandmother who I don’t remember but I guess I look and am just like, and … Nora Roberts.

If you could spend the day with a character from one of your books who would it be and what would you do?
Colton. We’d talk. I’d ask him if he liked how I portrayed his life.

What character in your books would you be least likely to get along with? Why?
Least likely… Santiago in The Player. You’ll have to read to find out why.

Blog Tour: Sweet Rivalry - K. Bromberg

Ryder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

Review

There is just something incredibly sexy about the juxtaposition of tattoos and a suit.  Throw in a beard and I am sold.  I drooled over Ryder Rodgers a little bit when we first met him in Sweet Cheeks and I was ecstatic that he was getting his own story.  Sweet Rivalry is full of witty banter, passion and fireworks that will have your kindle smoking.  This was seriously one fun novella to read.  I was sucked in from the start.  Who doesn’t love a good frenemies to lovers story?

Harper is smart, successful and independent.  She’s a spit fire and absolutely determined to win this bid.  The last thing she was expecting was to run into her old college rival and for the sparks to fly.  Ryder is confident, alpha and in control.  Well, in control of everything but his libido when Harper’s around.  The chemistry between the two of them is explosive.  The push-pull and banter between the two of them kept me grinning.  They are both strong minded individuals determined to win and they play off each other beautifully.  I loved how developed they were for it being novella.  There isn’t a lot of time in one to delve deep into backstories but you get a sense of their strengths, weaknesses, and flaws without it taking up too much story time.

This is a delicious little treat of a read.  It’s short, sexy and angst free.  There’s a tiny bit of drama at the very end but well, you’ll have to read it to see it.  The only bad thing I can say about this is that I want more.  Actually scratch that.  I need more of Ryder.  I need more beard burn.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

Excerpt

Work first. Reward sex next.

That’ll give me something to look forward to during the next few days. The ones I can’t wait to dive headfirst into that will be an ever-changing combination of stress, exhaustion, strategy, and manipulation. An unscripted dance amongst us bidders while we size each other up, calculate our numbers, and explain to the developer why we’re the most valuable candidate for the job.

It’s the game I love. The competition I thrive on. My return to the job that I’ve been desperate to make.

And there’d be no better way to make a statement that Harper Denton is back than to leave this building with the multimillion dollar contract for Meteor Development tucked securely under my arm.

And just like that, as a reward for my positive thinking, when I look up, there he is, in full view.

I take in the expensive briefcase, the venti Starbucks, and the expensive watch peeking out from beneath the cuff of his shirt. And just my luck that while I’m afforded a full view of his body, the one thing I’m the most curious about is obscured by his hand holding his cell phone up to his ear: his face.

So instead I drink him in. He really is magnificent. I note his posture and the way he carries his body when he moves forward a few steps. There’s an air about him that says he’s no-nonsense and in control, powerful, and at the same time he doesn’t seem uptight. He has that Southern California professional vibe. I can’t put my finger on it but he reminds me of someone I can’t quite place. Regardless, a man who can pull off being in control and playful has definite merits.

Like “spank me until my body aches in want, and then make a game of hitting each erogenous zone with his tongue before he’ll satisfy that ache he created and let me come” type of merits.

The mind-blowing-sex reward just became even more appealing.

Excerpt

He takes a step toward me then hesitates, but before I can process anything else, his lips are on mine.

And not just on mine––not just a brush of lips against lips—but I’m talking all in. Hands on my cheeks, tongue licking between my lips, body pressed against mine, groan in the back of his throat, type of all in.

I don’t react at first. I’m stunned. Flabbergasted, my mind reeling from the anger to the surprise to now this without any warning at all.

This is Ryder.

My rival.

My supporter.

My crush.

The thoughts flicker that this is what I’ve wanted. But they soon shift to panic. To insecurity I don’t kiss well enough. That this is all a joke and I’m the butt of it.

But then I feel. Everything. All at once.

And I know this is real.

It’s like I can’t catch my breath and have too much air all at the same time.

My body is on fire. And not just from his touch but from that burn deep inside that feels like it’s exploding and imploding all at once.

So this is what it feels like to really be kissed.

It’s a fleeting thought before the sensations, the moment, the emotions, consume me whole.

His hands move my face to change the angle of the kiss. His fingertips on the line of my jaw singe my skin. His lips move expertly against mine, and all I can do is feel. All I can do is want.

Thinking isn’t an option.

The anger from before has morphed to want. The adrenaline has recharged with desire.

There is no rivalry.

There is no graduation ceremony tomorrow I’m missing to catch my flight.

There is no panic over if I’ll ever see him again.

It’s just him.

And me.

The scent of his cologne in my nose. The heat of his body against mine. The taste of hunger in his kiss.

BLURB

An all new second chance love story by the New York Times Bestselling author of the beloved Driven series.

It all started with the invitation. To my ex-fiance’s new wedding.

I should have ignored it. Thrown it away. Set it afire. But I didn’t. I replied.

With a plus one.

And then my assistant accidentally mailed it.

Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye.

When he showed up out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear of him. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding. I should have never let him kiss me.

But I didn’t.

And now we’re left wondering if the pieces of the life we once shared still fit together somehow. First loves are hard to forget. The question is, do we want to forget? Or do we risk the chance and see what happens next?

REVIEW

Sweet Cheeks was second chance romance at its best.  K.  Bromberg created a story that was charming and sweet.  I was completely swept off my feet.  I adore these kinds of stories.  There was the history of their past, he was her brother’s best friend, and there was a treehouse involved.  It did take me a bit to get enthralled in the story, the first 20% seemed a little convoluted to me but once it hit its stride, I was captivated.

Saylor was funny, cute and cheeky.  Hayes was swoon worthy, sweet, and I loved the way he wooed her.  They were playful; there was great banter and tons of sexual tension.    And just like with her other books, it was full of hot moments to steam up the pages.  I fell in love with them as a couple.  You get to go on a journey with them, through the present and through their memories.  I absolutely loved the depth and history built in.  There were also some fabulous side characters—ones to love, ones to hate.  I loved that the characters didn’t feel flat at all.

If you love second chance romances, you really should take a chance on this one.  It is low drama, high warm fuzzies.  It kept me smiling and feeling good.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

Ten years is a long time to hold a grudge. Ten years is also a long time to love someone who hurt you so deeply you were scarred on the inside. Ten years is also a long time to find yourself, but that didn’t hold Saylor back from finally finding what makes her happy. Or a small part of what makes her happy.

After ending her 6 year relationship and engagement to Mitch the Prick, Saylor did what she always dreamed of doing. Opened her own bakery, Sweet Cheeks. 8 months later, she receives an invitation to a wedding. Her wedding. Only she isn’t the bride, but nevertheless the details are exactly that. Her wedding. The wedding she picked out with Mitch before she had a moment of clarity and decided he was THE ONE. Despite the emotions she feels about these details, she marks the RSVP card as a yes and with a plus one.

Have you met Hayes? Well, you’re about to.. Hayes is an A- list actor who has worked his ass off to get the tip top of the Hollywood motion picture ladder. He also happens to be Saylor’s first love from ten years ago, her brothers best friend, and now her plus one to a wedding she planned with a man she doesn’t love anymore.

K Bromberg has slowly weaseled her way into my top favorites list of authors and I can’t say that I am mad about it. She has this way about her writing that makes me love her as well as hate her. I always seem to get sucked into these world’s that she creates and can’t seem to get out of until the very last word. Even then i sit and reminisce over her books for days after and Sweet Cheeks is no different. If you’re looking for second chance love, you have come to the right book. If you are looking for hot and steamy sex scenes, again, you have the right book. If you are looking for something to keep you biting your nails, crying, or smiling. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT BOOK! - Daddy L
