Review

If there was ever a book that I could call bittersweet it’s Since I’ve Been Loving You.  Told in three points of view—Xavier, Connor, and Alys—it’s the story I’ve been anxiously waiting for since I first fell in love with the NOLA’s Own series.  Now if you haven’t read the series (what the hell are you waiting for?) don’t worry, this can be read as a standalone.  But if you have, you definitely know what I’m talking about.  All that being said, SIBLY is beyond words.  If you follow my reviews at all, you know my feelings about Kelli Jean.  I adore her words but this has to be one of her top reads for me.  And it’s definitely in my top 10 of 2017.

Xavier “X” Johnson is a gentle soul, he’s self-sacrificing, and just all around an amazing person.  From the get go you get to see just how much he’s willing to sacrifice and how far he’s willing to go for his “brothers.”  Alys is a dichotomy.  She’s sweet and unsure but also strong and sassy.  Connor is sweet, sexy, and talented.  The relationship and relationships between the three are confusing and complex.  It’s a painful, ugly cry inducing, and awe inspiring journey that we go on with them.  Oh my, the FEELS.  Like with most of her books, Jean does not hold back when it comes to drawing every single drop of emotion from you.

This book is one big ball of angst.  But that’s not all you’ll get; there’s humor, there’s heart tugging, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  I loved immersing myself back into the world of NOLA’s Own and seeing the unconventional family the characters created for themselves.  This is definitely a must read for me.  I’d recommend it to everyone, yell from the roof that people need to buy this book, it’s that exquisite.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

MEET THE AUTHOR: KELLI JEAN

Born and raised in Miami, Kelli Jean traded the tropical heat for the arctic. Now she deals with twenty-four hour daylight in the summer, zero sunlight in the winter, and believes the Northern Lights make up for the mind-boggling amount of ice and snow she has to put up with for seven months out of the year. She’s surrounded by mountains and ocean and sheep, and claims her bizarre sense of humor is what keeps her sane.

The insane don’t know they’re insane.

Kelli uses her imagination to create worlds she can escape to from the mundane tasks of everyday life, such as washing the damn dishes and vacuuming up Legos off the floor—and don’t get her started on the mad amount of cat hair on the end of the couch. She gave up on that a long time ago. When the household goes to sleep at night, she writes down everything that happened in her head while doing such tedious chores. But she enjoys living in her own head, so that’s pretty cool.

Technology terrifies her. She can barely turn on a computer, and was completely shocked when she’d actually written a book on one. To this day, she has no explanation for this baffling mystery. It took her three years to realize she can take screen shots of messages and pictures of bearded, tattooed men with her phone. Now that she’s mastered this task, her phone is slowly dying, and she’s nervous that she’s going to have to buy a new one and it will take her another three years to learn how to use it.

REVIEWS

I have known since I first picked up one of her books that Kelli Jean was a literary goddess but I swear she just keeps getting better and better with each word she writes.  She absolutely destroyed me with Ten Thousand Words.  I was her captive from the very first page.  The amount of emotion packed into those pages is astounding.  I ran the gamut of them.  Normally I shy away from books that touch on these kinds of topics because I have triggers but I was able to read this without problems because she gave me heroes to grasp onto.

And what a hero she gave.  Deo Dahl, a giant of a man.  Tattooed and bearded—and we all know how I feel about that.  He’s loud and crass but he’s got the hugest heart.  This man right here is going to be your next book boyfriend, you won’t need any other.  I promise you that.  I never thought anyone would top Phil Deveraux in my heart but Deo Dahl just did.  Then there’s Opie, oh my Opie.  My heart just breaks for her.  If you’ve read the other books, you get hints that there’s something gut-wrenching there.  I wasn’t expecting that.  But she’s a survivor.  She’s slightly quirky, a little bit sassy and a whole lot of vulnerable.  Seeing her blossom is beautiful, hopeful.

I needed a ton of tissue, chocolate and whiskey to get through this book.  Ten Thousand Truths isn’t a sweet soft romance, there’s nothing trope about it.  There’s suspense, action, and holy sh*t is there steam.   But it’s so much more.  This is probably one of the most difficult books I’ve had to read this year but also one of the most beautiful.  It’s about healing, about strength, about survival.  It’s about giving a voice to the voiceless.  It’s a damn masterpiece.  It grabs hold of you and won’t let you go until you turn the last page.  And even then it’ll stick with you.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J
I am going to keep this short and sweet because if I don’t then I will give away everything and that is just not fair. If you have not read Ten Thousand Words or Ten Thousand Lies, you are way behind and need to hop on the damn train. It is such a great ride. Kelli Jean took a walk on the dark side a bit here. I mean barely a step or two over but damn was it nice. This girl is a literary god.

Ten THousand Truths had me from start to end. I fell for Deo. I fell for Opie. I fell for everything and everyone in this book. We catch a few glimpses of Deo Dahl in the two books before Ten Thousand Truths, but this is where he becomes the stuff of wet dreams. You think I am kidding, but oh I am not. He is hunky and beautiful in all of his tattooed glory and I just want him in my life. He already owns my heart. Especially with the way he seems to get Opie and click with her, right off the bat. Opie has been the the wringer and come out swinging. She is fighting her demons mentally and trying to physically. Deo and Opie together.. Meant to be. PERFECT.

Now Im not making sense. That’s what Kelli Jean does to me. She ruins me. I’m not even mad though.  Just read the book. It’s so very good. - Daddy L

Reviews

Kelli Jean has once again shown that she is a literary master with Ten Thousand Lies.  I sat down and devoured it within a few hours because I could not put it down.   I think my soul would have wept if I tried.  It is beautiful, dark, gritty and intense.   It’s the story of strangers meeting in horrific circumstances and forming a bond so tight they become family.  It’s a story that shows that family isn’t always blood, that sometimes it’s a choice, a bond stronger than that which flows in our veins.  And that can be a beautiful thing.

She takes you to the seedy underbelly of human society but at the same time leads you out by hand.  And oh what a hand it is that leads you out of the darkness.  Ricki Conklin is a certified Grade-A badass.  He’s tattooed, bearded sex on a stick but when he meets the woman that is the light to his darkness, his soft spot shows.  Jaime is his perfect counterpart.  She’s sexy, sassy and takes no crap.  The chemistry between the two, wow...I think a few times my panties almost spontaneously combusted.  But it’s not all heat, there’s some serious heart and story going on.  She blended the heat, heart and story into an exquisitely crafted novel.  I can’t wait for more.  - Peace and Love, Buxom J

This right here is why I started a blog and began reviewing books! Kelli Jean has created this awesome world where a group of friends becomes a family. We get to learn all about this family and their dynamics and be apart of something amazing. Ricki and Jamie’s story is one of the best that I have ever had the pleasure of reading and you all need to experience this! Like yesterday! Ricki is this down to earth, sometimes alpha, and sometimes gentle yet complete badass. He is everything you could ever want in a man. Bearded, tatted, and lethal. Jamie is the light of Ricki’s life and rightly so. She is the in your face, take no shit woman we all wish that we could be! Their story is one with so many twists and turns it will keep you on the edge of your seat and having you ready for anything! I can not wait to see where this world of Kelli Jean takes us! - Daddy L

Review: Ten Thousand Words – Kelli Jean

Xanthe and Oliver. Fucking Xanthe and Oliver.

Where do I even begin with this story?

I don’t know if it is the beard of epic proportions or the sass to end all sass but I fell for this book. It didn’t happen immediately. Hell, it didn’t happen within the first 50% but it happened. And it happened HARD.

The story of these two was amazing, the back and forth, leaves you gutted and then has you grinning from ear to ear. The sex is on fire and leaves you pleading for more. The sass of Xanthe has you smiling at every turn, and the bearded god-like Oliver has you panting throughout this page turner.
Kelli Jean is a literary genius and I have thought about giving her my first born in sacrifice for another amazing book. I can’t not see what else is to come from her!

If you are looking for a book that has the sassy leading lady who has that family you’ve always wanted, the bearded hunk of man candy you can’t stop panting about, and a story line that will keep you coming back for more than Ten Thousand Words is your book! Read it. I fucking dare you!
