REVIEW

Now that’s what I’m talking about.  I absolutely love slow burn stories.  Sure insta-lust and white hot passion from the get go can be super-hot and they have their place.  But there’s something about a slow burn that just tugs on my heart strings.  I think that’s why friends to lovers and brother’s best friend stories are my favorites.  There tends to be a lot of depth and slow burn to them.  Saving Grace has both—my favorite trope of friends to lovers and a slow burn.

Grace isn’t just shy—she’s got high functioning anxiety.  This rules her life; otherwise she’s super sweet and has a spunky side.  Sawyer is her calm, her best friend.  And he’s sexy as hell, a detective, sweet and tender.  This guy made me melt.  Grace and her comfort is always on his mind.  I loved how their relationship formed.  I found it unique.  The chemistry between them was great.  All around I thought this was a really sweet romance between the two.  If you’ve read Mykel’s novella Interference Grace, Sawyer, Sydney and Caleb will all be familiar to you but if you haven’t, don’t worry.  This can easily be read as a standalone.  Though I do urge you to go get it, Sydney and Caleb’s story isn’t one to miss.  I loved seeing how their life has turned out a few years done the road.

There was a great mix of heart, heat and humor in these pages.  It was the perfect mixture for a lazy day during the holiday week.  It was pretty low drama and low angst, the conflict was pretty plausible for the situation.  If you love slow burns, definitely pick this up.  It’s well written, flows beautifully and tugs on the heart strings.  -Peace and love, Buxom J

REVIEW

I was pretty impressed with the first book I read by Mignon Mykel so I jumped on the chance to read her box set of O’Gallagher Nights.  We get three stories about three Irish-American siblings who own a pub.  Overall, I found them all to be cute stories with hot sex.  Some dragged a little more than others for me.

One Night Stand

In One Night Stand we meet the eldest O’Gallagher, Conor.  He’s a bit of a manwhore, a playboy but he’s got a heart of gold underneath that reputation.  Mia Hampton is his sister’s ex-best friend and she comes to the bar with a purpose.  She’s sweet and shy.  This was probably my favorite of the three stories.  It was fast-paced without seeming rushed and I didn’t feel that it skimped too much on the depth despite being a novella.  I liked that it wasn’t insta-love like a lot of novellas are.  And I found the characters to be decently developed.

About Last Night

So from my favorite to my least favorite, I didn’t like middle sibling Rory’s story as much as I liked Conor’s.  This is the one that dragged the most for me.  Rory is cocky, arrogant and like his older brother, a bit of a manwhore.  He rubbed me the wrong way and I had a hard time connecting with him.  Emily is independent and determined.  She hates Rory with a passion.  I usually love enemies to lovers stories but this one seemed to resolve too easily for me, probably because it’s a novella.  Plus it was on the insta-love side which isn’t always my favorite to begin with.

All Night Long

Brenna’s been keeping a secret from her brothers; actually she keeps a lot of secrets.  But right now the biggest is that she’s in a long term relationship with bartender Greyson Stone.  Brenna is a bit broken, feisty, and determined.  Stone is understanding, patient and also determined.  I like that we see their relationship evolve with flashbacks over the years.  This book didn’t drag as much as About Last Night but I still struggled while reading it.  But I definitely have a crush on Stone.  He’s a book boyfriend worth keeping.

All three stories are quick and easy reads with both heat and sweet.  If you’re in the need of something quick to read with low drama, this would be up your alley.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

Reviews

Interference puts a fresh twist on sports romance.  Usually you read about how much of a manwhore the athlete is and how patient and forgiving the female has to be.  That’s not the case here.  Sydney is a hard working college student trying to find her niche in the world.  After working an internship as a wedding planner last summer, she’s now trying her hand in the entertainment industry.  Her next assignment?  Casting a reality TV dating show.  Caleb is the star forward for an NHL hockey team and is focused on his career.  He has no time and no desire to star on a reality show until Sydney shows up in person to pitch it to him.

I found the story to be sweet and flirty.  Caleb is an amazing guy, I wish there was a way to bring him to life.  He’s a great son, a great brother and a considerate boyfriend!  The trifecta!  Sydney is sweet, smart and sassy.  And the chemistry between the two?  Woo wee, I’m surprised the fire alarms weren’t going off on that cruise ship.  There was low drama even with the reality show story line.  I was hoping for more with that—perhaps a cat fight or two between Rachel and Sydney.  And truthfully I saw the twist/drama coming but that didn’t keep me from enjoying the story.  It’s definitely the type of novel that you can get lost in for a few hours.  Luckily, Caleb has a bunch of brothers and sisters so I’m hoping there are plenty more novels in the works.  I can’t wait to see more from this author.  -Peace and Love, Buxom J

GUYS! I cried. Well, technically, I teared up but Mignon Mykel brought liquid from my eyes! It is a running joke that I have a black heart and don’t get affected by books very easily. Well, Mignon, you did it! You have me choking up and I produced a few real tears! Interference kept my heart racing ( in more ways than one but we will get to that!) and kept me silenting praying to the book gods.

Caleb Prescott is all male and all hockey, all the time. He lives, eats, and breathes hockey, hockey, and more hockey. His close knit family is also very involved in the sport, but Caleb wants no distractions. Unfortunately for him, he meets one Sydney Meadows whenever she is assigned to convince him to become the star of a dating game show. Sydney in all her red haired, organizational glory gets the job done, but not without a few bumps in the road. Enter stage left a.k.a. bumps in the road, some big ole whopping feelings for the one guy she is assigned to find Mrs. Right.

I truly loved this book. I could not put it down after the 25% mark. Not only was there so much going on between Caleb and Sydney, I felt that the book actually held a good plot and I wanted to know what was going on around them. Not just in their relationship. I fell so hard for the man that Caleb was and all that he stood for, envious does not even begin to describe how I feel when I think of Sydney. I’m telling you right now, no book in a long while has made me feel like Interference has and I could not be more thrilled! Not to mention the sex scenes were on FIYAH! Lemme tell ya something, my friend. Hockey players have got it going on. - Daddy L

ABOUT MIGNON MYKEL

Mignon is a twenty-something (…getting awfully close to thirty-something) who resides in Wisconsin. An avid reader since her preschool days, she ‘blames’ her mother for teaching her to read during that all-important time during a forming brain. Some of her earlier memories of reading include her mother buying her a book at the mall — and finishing the book before they even returned home. 

Writing happened soon after the reading started. Her first writing piece can be found in a box of other important papers from growing up. It’s about an apple who was her friend, but she had to eat. 

The first series Mignon started to write was about a close family of one brother and his three younger sisters. She started writing this family and their friends in 2005, but as soon as the Prescott family took over her mind, the Ashbys fell silent. Maybe someday we’ll all hear from the Ashbys, but those Prescotts…. The Prescotts are excited to have their stories told.
